USA Softball Junior Olympic age is organized around the playing season rather than age today. For the standard JO chart, this calculator measures completed age on August 31 immediately before the selected season. A birthday on September 1 therefore falls into the next twelve-month birth window.
After finding competition age, the calculator shows the youngest standard even-numbered division that contains it: ages seven and eight map to 8U, nine and ten to 10U, and so on through 18U. A younger player may be permitted to play in an older classification, so the result is a minimum standard division rather than a required roster placement.
A player's displayed division can change from one playing season to the next even if registration occurs months before competition. Selecting the intended season keeps the calculation tied to the corresponding age chart instead of using today's age or the calendar year without a cutoff.
Junior Olympic classification uses the September 1 seasonal cutoff, displayed as age on August 31 before the season. The High Performance Program uses birth-year classification and age on December 31. The calculator marks the 2026 JO rule and HPP birth-year table as verified. Other JO seasons are clearly labeled projections, while unconfigured HPP seasons receive no inferred group at all.

Edge cases
A birthday one day after the JO cutoff remains in the younger competition-age window.
The youngest calculated JO division does not prevent younger players from playing in an older classification when allowed.
